Its bathing suit season again and this is the time of year I’m reminded how much I hate the tattoo on my lower back. Bathing suit equals visible tattoo. And living in the Midwest means I take advantage of wearing a bathing suit when the sun is shining!
Over the past six years I’ve considered my options for removing my eleven year old tattoo. Laser removal was always my first choice. Then, in 2004, I worked on a preclinical study that involved a topical solution for removal of tattoos. Although it was in its first stages, I got very excited for the possibility of having another option, one that may be cheaper and less painful then laser removal. It’s now 2010 and I have no idea what happened with that research.
In 2006, I set up a consultation appointment at a Laser Removal Center in Chicago, but then canceled the appointment because I did not think I could afford the procedure. Cost had always been my main concern, however, after more research on removal I wondered about scarring. According to the New Look Laser Tattoo Removal website (http://www.newlookhouston.com/TattooRemoval.html) some people may experience keloid scarring.
Although I do not have the typical skin type that experiences keloid scarring, I do have one major keloid scar from a botched mole removal. My mind is made up that I want to remove my tattoo by laser but I’m left wondering if I should risk the possibility of major keloid scarring.
